Blog migrated to GreenCloud
This blog has been migrated from Inception Hosting to GreenCloud.
Shortly after my previous blog post i received an email from my VPS provider, Inception Hosting, that they are ceasing services in January 2025. The parent company, ClouVider, offered a recuring 50% off any of their VPS services but, even with that discount, it would still be about 25% more for an equivilent package (i had a nice Black Friday deal of €30/year for 2-cores, 4GB RAM, 80GB NVMe, 10TB transfer).
Fortunately Black Friday was just around the corner and, after scouring the LowEndTalk Forum, i finally settled on GreenCloud as my new provider.
They seem to be well regarded and they had some nice deals but most were far more than i need for a blog and a few websites. In the end i went with a budget VPS plan: 4-core EPYC, 4GB RAM, 35GB NVMe, 4TB data transfer for $25/year.
I paid for 3-years ($70) and the RAM and data transfer was doubled as a Black Friday deal.
So far i'm impressed with the service and recomend GreenCloud for those looking for a modestly-priced VPS.
I was considering running NixOS on the new server but in the end decided to stick with Debian. I've been running Debian for nearly 25 years at this point and am most comfortable with it.
